Well, I never knew that!
Have you ever seen a map that has an arrow pointing where you're standing? The arrow usually reads "You Are Here". Did you know it has a technical name?
It's an IDEO locator.
Find your way there by car
First of all, find the cheapest petrol in your postcode area via Petrolbusters. You can also find out which garage actually has any petrol left during any future petrol crisis!
And if you want to save money and the environment then check in at goingmyway.co.uk, a site with government backing which will enable you to share a lift for school runs, long-distance travel and more.
has a fantastic new route planner and location finder.

You can personalise the RAC site so that news of traffic jams on your frequently used routes appear on the home page.
And, if you are travelling any distance, especially with children, PLEASE

Rand McNally if you are in the States.
Highly recommended route finder is the new McDonald's trip planner. It can give you a breakdown of the route, road by road, with mini maps of each directional change (click for manoeuvre maps). And it will help you break up your trip by finding McDonald's restaurants along the way!
And if talking of Ronald McDonald makes you think of nutrition and food safety then click here for important health information .
Travelling by train?
All you need to know about timetables is here at the UK rail planner
and you can buy your tickets on-line here. You can even download your booked train journeys to your electronic calendar (eg Act! or Outlook) through their Infuzer service.

Free 5-day forecast

The most accurate weather forecasts around using the Solar Weather Forecast technique. The SWT claims to surpass all previous methods used to forecast weather for any period beyond 5 days. Which is why I guess only the five day forecast is free!

There is a £1.50 per minute phone line for more detailed and longer term forecasting for those planning for weddings and special events!

Who's making the decisions?

For education-related organisations and campaigns, and for government websites, check here. MPs and their constituencies are listed here or you can email the House of Commons Information Office to enquire or comment.

Best of all, tho', you can web-fax yourMP through this excellent website which gives clear and easy-to-use information. There's also an easy way to find out through your postcode who is your MP and who is standing in the election.

Post Codes and Postage Rates

Post codes online - work out an address from a postcode or a postcode from an address. You may occasionally have to try a few times as it gets very busy - so, if you can't wait, try offline Mon-Fri 9-5 on 0345 111222.

Current postage rates.

The postal rates calculator will work out the cost of the item you want to send if you know the weight (tried using your kitchen scales?) or send for Royal Mail's Easyweigh).

The Royal Mail changes the URLs for its services surprisingly frequently - so if the above links don't work, just got direct to www.royalmail.com
