Homework backpacks must go!
Parents and teachers must do more to reduce the weight of children's school backpacks, say researchers who found that, in relative terms, the average pack exceeds legal load limits set for ADULTS.

Rearch shows that many children experience discomfort and even back pain from carrying the heavy packs.

The backpacks of 237 school children aged between 10 and 11 were weighed. The average backpack weighed between 19 and 21 pounds.
