Your
garden birds are courting too! With the decline in natural nesting sites, such
as old gnarled trees and thick hedges, it is a great boost to your bird
population if you supply a bird box.

Breastfeeding Awareness Week
12-19 May 2001 |
|
| |
Funded by the Department of Health. the week aims to raise an awareness of the
benefits of breastfeeding and offer breastfeeding support and advice to those
who need it.
Breastfeeding experts say that statistics show that new mums are increasingly
choosing other alternatives to breastfeeding and believe that the images
commonly portrayed in society and on television don't encourage women.
The National Childbirth Trust (NCT) is calling on TV programme makers,
especially those writing for the popular soaps, to give breastfeeding a
positive boost.

April 29th marks the beginning of
International
Composting Awareness week.
Gardeners are being urged to do their bit in the first UK event. The aim of the
week is to encourage householders to think about ways of making and using
compost.
A number of successful events were held throughout the country. For example, in
South Derbyshire, people started queuing at 0830am for the 1000am event with
1,100 composters and 300 water butts sold on the day
